Massage Apprenticeships
inaugural cohort begins January 6, 2026
learn… empower… heal
Why Train Under Me?
With over 20 years of experience as a licensed massage therapist, CranioSacral practitioner, and yoga instructor, I bring a depth of embodied wisdom to every session. My goal is to pass that wisdom on — not just techniques, but how to hold space, sense somatic needs, and foster healing from the inside out.
My apprenticeship is more than a job training: it's a purpose-driven journey into healing, self‐discovery, and deep service. My desire is to teach a holistic wellness approach. You’ll be mentored to develop not just skill, but presence, trust, and therapeutic artistry.
Apprenticeship Requirements
When you work with me, your training also meets the Utah Division of Occupational & Professional Licensing (DOPL) apprenticeship standards. Here are the key requirements you’ll satisfy:
Apprentice Licensing: You must obtain a Massage Apprentice License from the Utah Division of Occupational & Professional Licensing before starting (this is non-refundable and must be done prior to starting training)
Supervisor Qualification: I must be approved by DOPL to serve as your supervising massage therapist (you’ll turn in a copy of my information I provide you with your application)
Supervisor Experience: The supervisor (me) needs at least 6,000 hours of licensed massage therapy experience (I’ve got over 25,000 hours- we’re good)
Course / Curriculum Hours: The apprenticeship involves a minimum of 1,000 hours of supervised training
Curriculum Breakdown (per Utah Administrative Code):
125 hours: anatomy, physiology, & kinesiology
40 hours: pathology
50 hours: massage theory
120 hours: massage techniques, including the five basic Swedish strokes
300 hours: massage client services (real client sessions)
310 hours: hands-on instruction / practical training
40 hours: professional standards, ethics, business practices
15 hours: sanitation, universal precautions, CPR and first aid
Curriculum Approval: I’ll submit a curriculum outline (with required resources) to DOPL for approval, and you'll follow that approved curriculum (you will purchase this directly from the approved provider and name me as your instructor)
Supervision Requirements:
I’ll provide prior instruction (verbal or written) before you begin any task
I’ll be present in the facility when you’re doing client work and available for immediate face-to-face communication. (I may or may not be in the massage room at all times, depending on the situation)
Record Keeping: We will both keep daily records (signed) of your hours, training, and client services. These logs will be available for review by the Division, if required
Signage: At your massage station, we’ll put up a “Apprentice in Training” sign (as required) so clients know you’re training
Conduct Requirement: As your supervisor, I must not have been disciplined for unprofessional or unlawful conduct in the past five years (also, all good here)
Exams:
As an apprentice, you will need to pass the Utah Massage Law & Rule Examination (I’ve got the details on this, and it’s included in your tuition)
To become a licensed massage therapist later, you’ll need to pass the MBLEx (Massage & Bodywork Licensing Exam) (we will be using a study guidebook throughout the program and your first- hopefully, only- license exam fee is included in tuition)
Failure to Pass the Exam: If you fail the MBLEx three times, I will work with you on a plan of study and together we’ll meet with the board to figure out how you can improve
Supervision Limits: I can supervise up to a certain number of apprentices at one time, per Utah state law. I am looking for 4 apprentices, are you one of them?
What You’ll Learn (Under These Requirements + My Mentorship)
Beyond meeting state regulations, your training will reflect my holistic and somatic healing approach:
Develop a strong technical foundation: anatomy, pathology, technique, client flow.
Cultivate intuitive presence: how to read your clients’ nervous system, fascia, energy.
Build professional practices: ethics, business fundamentals, self-care, energetic hygiene.
Structure & Logistics
Duration: The timeline for the ~1,000-hour apprenticeship, will run from January 6, 2026 and will end in January of 2027. Class days are Tues/Thurs/Sat for the first 6 weeks. Week 7 begins clinic hours which are determined by availability between you and the clinic, LaRue Therapy, with class days remaining on Tues/Thurs for the rest of the program.
Compensation A huge benefit to choosing an apprenticeship is that you have the opportunity to receive compensation for your hands-on clinic hours. This comes in the form of tips. The payment for student services goes to LaRue Therapy.
Shadowing & Hands-On: You’ll shadow, co-treat, then lead sessions under supervision.
Mentorship: Regular check-ins, feedback sessions, study plan for exam prep, and professional development.
Record Review: We’ll maintain logs that we both sign and store; these are required by DOPL.
Make-ups: Life happens and we will work with it (another benefit to an apprenticeship)
Tuition: The program fee is $14,500. A 10% discount is available if paid in full prior to the program starting. Monthly and quarterly payment options are available. The cost of curriculum, books, apprentice license and fingerprints, Massage Therapy Law and Rule exam, MBLEX study guidebook and exam fee, Bodies Exhibit field trip, and massage essentials are included in the tuition amount. Please see the complete breakdown here of costs included and tuition payment schedule.
